Two years and no updates. I forgot this existed. Let's have at it then.
Sock and Bull.
I'm not a hateful person perse. I'm brutally honest. I treat everyone equally, but I have this problem with prejudice. I'd dare say I'm prejudiced against a certain part of Humanity...perhaps even racist?
I dislike stupid people. I have the hardest time tolerating a stupid person. I don't know exactly why, and maybe that's for another exploratory post.
I have a tag line I like: "Welcome to the Store. How can I Irritate you with the Truth today?"

Sock & Bull: Updates
Man. I've been busy this last month what with the San Jose conference and the usual grind in the classroom. We did get the adviser a mini-fridge since she stayed late at the Conference to get our awards (and The Solano Tempest DID get awards! General Excellence, plus more!) And now she has a microwave. Now if I can convince them to get a toaster....
I'm still debating on my next opinion piece. If anyone reads this and has any idea's, please comment and let me know!

Sock And Bull: Jena Six Revision
So an important fact came out from Jena Six that I didn't know when I wrote the article; the six black kids had apparently continued to beat the white kid after he was down. This may not seem important, but it does change how they should've been prosecuted.
Considering the fact they continued to beat up on the kid after he was down and out, I can definitely understand the second-degree attempted murder charge. Why? Because it's pretty chicken-$%!* to take a guy on with six backing you up in the first place, but to continue attacking someone when they're defenseless...you're basically trying to kill them! There's no justifiable reason to do that.
Admittedly, the guy was out of the hospital the same night so the beating must not have been too severe for them not to keep him overnight (which is a common thing considering the possibility of severe injury), so second degree attempted murder does seem a little harsh. Aggravated assault might be more fitting, but I can understand the attempted murder charge.
I still think the District Attorney shares responsibility with the School board with the escalation of the situation, but I can now understand his reasoning behind seeking the Second-Degree attempted murder charge, even if I do consider it a little bit harsh.

Sock & Bull: The Death Penalty
The next article coming is one in support of the Death Penalty. I wonder how big the response will be on that one....maybe it'll match the response to the immigration article! I can only hope!
What I really liked about the response to the immigration article was that there was so many intelligent replies and opinions. Yeah we had one troll go "screw off" to one negative reply, but other than that everything was really awesome.
I wish all my articles got responses like that.

Sock and Bull: Jena Six
I've got an article coming out regarding the Jena Six fiasco, and I have got to say that the stupidity blatant in it is astounding considering we're in the year 2007. I'd expect this kind of situation in, say, as early as 1989, but come on! Shouldn't we, as a society, be beyond this kind of racial crap? We have enough to deal with when it comes to unwarranted racial prejudice with the entire radical muslim faction, that actually does pose a threat with their crazy suicide bombings, giving a bad name to the perfectly normal, friendly, non-threatening muslims, but now we have to go back to a "classic" race issue? My god. I admit that people like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are borderline nutjobs that seem more like bad cartoon characters than upstanding role models...well I just said that to express my opinion of them, but we should totally be beyond hating black people because their skin is darker than ours. There's plenty of other reasons to hate people other than skin color; their's stupidity, offensive behavior, talking on a cellphone during a movie or while driving, kicking puppies, kicking kittens, attitude, their personality....so many more understandable things. I mean, I myself am a racist against people who kick kittens and puppies. That's just not cool.

Sock and Bull: Dead Tree Edition
The first issue of the semester came out today! Woo! All that layout work and writing, compressed into paper...there's quite a feeling that goes with that.
I did have a serious failing I think on a news story that's been delayed. The lack of photographs and some direction on the story in question worries me, but I have some more time to work on it now and get the damn photo. Now I need to work on getting another opinion piece idea. How can I really follow up the response and awesomeness that was the last article (Whose DREAM is it really? for anyone who bothered to visit the Solano Tempest.) Eh, I'll figure it out.
And maybe I have. Jena 6 is a hot topic of much debate, even on this campus!
Random thought of the day: I hereby will refer to this blog as "the blargh" when in the newsroom.

Sock and Bull: The Mission Statement
So this entire Blog was the brainchild of...not me. It's the brainchild of the Advisor of the Solano Tempest, Mary Mazzocco, plus the other students.
Solano Tempest is the Solano Community College newspaper put out by the Journalism 60 (website: www.solanotempest.net, but you probably won't click the link. You wuss.)
Apparently I'm a very opinionated person...who would've thought? So much so the idea came up for me to write a blog! Well, who am I to say no?
One of the reasons that I, in particular, was singled out for this is due to the fact I'm not very tolerant of bull. It's one thing to joke around, but to try and pull/say some crock & bull stunts makes me want to sock someone in the face. My opinions are very plain and not particularly complicated most of the time; I like what I like and I hate what I hate.
So the mission statement of Sock and Bull is simply this: to tell it how I feel. Not having a good day laying out the paper? You'll see a nice blog about it and there might even be some cursing! Trying to do a story and the sources are being incompetent, blithering, raging wankers? Right here! Maybe some previews of opinion pieces I'll be writing will be up here too. Who knows! We'll just have to see what's what.
